Storie
An AI storybook generator that turns a prompt into a fully illustrated, personalised story in minutes.

About the Project
What if you could become the main character of your own story?
I created Storie, an AI-powered storybook generator that transforms a simple idea into a personalised and fully illustrated bedtime story. Users provide a child’s name, describe the adventure they want, and choose an art style for the illustrations.
Storie then generates the story and accompanying artwork within minutes, creating a reading experience that can be enjoyed by children, families, and friends.
Rationale
I built Storie to explore how AI workflows, story generation, and text-to-image models could be combined to serve a meaningful purpose.
Rather than creating disconnected pieces of text and artwork, I wanted to bring them together into a complete storybook experience that children could enjoy before bedtime. Personalising the story with the child’s name also helps make each adventure feel like it belongs to them.
How It Works
Every generated story follows a gentle four-part structure designed for bedtime reading:
- Introduction — introduces the setting and characters;
- The Journey — begins the main adventure;
- The Gentle Conflict — presents a mild, child-friendly challenge; and
- The Sleepy Resolution — brings the story to a peaceful conclusion.
For each part, the text-generation model writes a short section of the story and produces a scene description. An image-generation model then uses that description to create a matching illustration in the user’s selected visual style.
Users can choose from Watercolour, Claymation, Pastel Illustration, Cartoon, and Digital Art.
Editing and Storytime
After a storybook has been generated, users can edit individual pages or ask the AI to regenerate the text and illustrations with additional feedback.
The completed story can then be opened in a fullscreen Storytime mode with touch-friendly navigation, creating a more immersive reading experience on both computers and tablets.
Storybooks are saved directly in the user’s browser, allowing them to return to their creations without creating an account.
Project Satisfaction
I consider Storie a successful experiment. I was able to combine story generation, image generation, editing tools, and an immersive reading mode into a complete experience rather than a collection of separate AI outputs.
Takeaways
The quality of the finished storybook depends heavily on the image-generation model. Even with carefully designed prompts, the model’s limitations affected the consistency and quality of the illustrations.
I also learnt that spending more time planning the product and its workflow before coding would have made development smoother and reduced the need to revise decisions later.
